Restorative Justice is an art and a science. Practitioners may be competent in one aspect, but to truly conduct a restorative process well, one must continue to develop and enhance the necessary skills, temperament, and sensitivity to be effective. While many of CSC’s youth providers have been conducting RJ circles for a long time, the competencies are something that needs to be refreshed with updated skills, knowledge, and perspectives to accomplish the outcomes CSC and agencies seek.
The Restorative Justice process is improved for both victims and offenders or those who have caused harm and those who have received harm when facilitators are effective at addressing not only the primary incident but also any peripheral issues that may be contributing factors to disruptive behavior.
